Travis Downey

Travis Downey is originally from Colorado Springs, CO where he started for Harrison HS all four years, first as an outfielder then as a pitcher/outfielder (Jr/Sr). In his senior year, he was second statewide in strikeouts as a pitcher and lead his team to the deepest run for a state title in school history.

After graduating in ’98, Travis accepted a scholarship to play at Friends University. Even though he struggled his first two years, he learned many valuable lessons that helped propel him to All-Conference Honors his Junior and Senior years and landed him on the NAIA academic All-American team his Senior year.

After playing at Friends University, Travis signed with the Johnstown Johnnies (PA) of the Frontier League. Playing for just a part of the season, Travis soon realized that he no longer wanted to play as much as coach.

Travis would go back to coach at his alma mater starting as the defensive coach and assistant hitting coach for the first year. During the 2003 season, the Falcons set a school record for double plays turned and ended with a .925 fielding pct. In his second year, he was assigned to be the pitching coach. The 2004 staff was one for the record books, finishing in the top 10 in ERA, fewest walks per 9 IP, and WHIP. The Falcons would finish one win shy of the NAIA World Series. The 2005 season was not far behind with being in the top 15 in ERA and fewest walks per 9 IP.

In 2006, Travis started dabbling in individual lessons and feels it is exactly what he is meant to do. Travis currently does lessons with kids varying in age from 7 years old to college. He resides in Conway Springs, KS with his wife and three kids.
